This post will be covering the Radeon VII in depth in regards to the costs of the GPU and optimizing it properly for mining whether with BIOS modding or the proper overclocks.
The Radeon VII is a one of a kind card for mining cryptocurrency. With the use of the 7nm technology and the high memory bandwidth the Radeon VII can do up to 100Mh/s that is an insane amount for just a single GPU!
Although, It does consume lots of power up to 350 Watts and produces a good amount of heat, so make sure to cool these cards properly. There are many reports that some Radeon VIIs would run into Code 43 error very often, which then requires an RMA to be able to get the manufacturer to fix or replace it.
Later on we cover 2 different overclock settings, we do recommend to go the efficient path since it reduces the heat drastically but if you can cool them well then going performance mode won’t hurt.
How much does the Radeon VII cost?
The Radeon VII can be found brand new for really expensive prices that can go beyond $2,000+ from Amazon and as for Newegg they do not sell them anymore. Buying this GPU brand new is not recommended at all if it is above $1,000 USD so instead we recommend scouring for used deals in your local market(Marketplace, Offerups, Kjiji) or Ebay.
You can find it for $700 – $900 USD used but it does carry the risk of buying it off of a reseller. So please make sure to test it thoroughly before buying it and making sure that it is working properly. If the seller has a valid warranty, try to transfer it under your name as well.
The Radeon VII Mining Profitability
Calculating your profitability will always change and vary from day to day, hour to hour. We will eventually make a guide on how to calculate your profitability and how much money you will make, but as of now we will give you the profitability as of the day this article is posted.
We will be using Whattomine.com calculator to calculate profitability. Our constant factors will be that we are using 10 cents kwh for electricity and then we will be inserting in the numbers from our Effecient overclock settings and as well as 60-70 additional watts for the System that the GPU will be running on.
So using the numbers above you will be able to find the electricity prices to run it in the Cost column and the Profits are the left over revenue after the electricity is paid. This GPU can be paid off in less than a year as of the day we posted this article.
