This post will be covering the RX 580 8 GB in depth in regards to the costs of the GPU and optimizing it properly for mining whether with BIOS modding or the proper overclocks.
RX 5xx and 4xx series are the most common cards used for mining because they were reliable, cheap and they had really efficiency back to when they were leading the market.
If you have a 470, 480 or a 570. You might be able to use the same overclocks here by just tuning them a little more to work on your GPU.
How much does the RX 580 8GB cost?
The RX 580 8GB model can be found brand new for $180 – $200 at the time of this post. which is a bit expensive for a GPU this old when it can be found used for a lot cheaper. We recommend scouring for used deals in your local market(Marketplace, Offerups, Kjiji) or Ebay.
You can find it for $90 – $130 used but it does carry the risk of buying it off of a reseller. So please make sure to test it thoroughly before buying it and making sure that it is working properly. If the seller has a valid warranty, try to transfer it under your name as well.
The RX 580 Mining Profitability
Calculating your profitability will always change and vary from day to day, hour to hour. We will eventually make a guide on how to calculate your profitability and how much money you will make, but as of now we will give you the profitability as of the day this article is posted.
We will be using Whattomine.com calculator to calculate profitability. Our constant factors will be that we are using 10 cents kwh for electricity and then we will be inserting in the numbers from our Effecient overclock settings and as well as 60-70 additional watts for the System that the GPU will be running on.
So using the numbers above you will be able to find the electricity prices to run it in the Cost column and the Profits are the left over revenue after the electricity is paid. This GPU can be paid off in less than a year as of the day we posted this article.
